Drywood Termites:
Drywood termites are the most common termite in our area, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. These termites are wood inhabiting. They get everything they need from the wood, food, water, and shelter. The queen lays an egg about every 14 seconds and can live for up to 25 years. If left unchecked can cause structural damage to your home or business. These termites can live in areas of your home undetected for years so its important to have your home inspected. Subterranean Termites:
Subterranean Termites are also common in our area. They are the smallest of all the types of termites but they do the most damage because their colony can have millions of termites. The nest can be 15 feet underground and they are constantly foraging for food. When they identify a food source they leave a feramone trail back to the nest telling the colony where to go for food. These termites are destructive and if left unchecked can do major damage in a short period of time. Dampwood Termites:
Dampwood Termites are also found in our area but not near as often as Drywood and Subterranean. They are the largest type of termite but have the smallest sized colony. Like their name Dampwoods require a wet environment we find them in wood near lakes and rivers. These termites are not much of a threat for homeowners but if the conditions were right, they could be.
Fungus and Dry-Rot:
Fungus and Dry-Rot damaged wood is a result of a excessive moisture condition, when wood gets wet and stays wet it is vulnerable to fungus and eventually dry-rot. It could be a roof leak, a faulty grade, earth to wood contact, or other unfavorable conditions at your home like bad landscaping or sprinkler issues that cause moisture problems on your home you may not be aware of.
